Bone Grafting
Patients who have experienced bone loss due to aging, having missing teeth, trauma to the jaw or untreated periodontal disease might require bone graft to help support existing teeth. In fact, if you got a tooth extraction and looking to get implants, half of implant placement procedures require bone grafts. Bone graft is just one of the many bone augmentation procedure and you may need to build bone in your mouth. Other procedures include:
Sinus Lift
This procedure raises the sinus floor to increase the height of the bone in the upper jaw above the premolar and molar teeth to support placements of implants.
Socket Grafting
This procedure places a bone substitute in your socket and helps bone heal much faster and prevents dry sockets. This preserves bone and controls the bleeding. The bone graft is placed for the eventual tooth implant process in the future.
Alveoloplasty
This procedure helps recreate the natural contour of the gums and jaw that may have been lost due to an extraction or bone loss. When a tooth is removed, an empty socket is left in the alveolar ridge bone. Alveoloplasty will result in a more suitable jawbone shape for future dental treatments, like implants, as it will rebuild the original height and width of the alveolar ridge.
